Moving in guide

Your first week after moving into a rental

Protect your deposit, connect the essentials and create a written record while the evidence is fresh.

Turn a handover into a clean baseline for the rest of the tenancy.

  • Photograph the condition
  • Record meters and keys
  • Report urgent defects

Photograph the condition

Take dated photos of every room, surface, appliance, key and defect. Send corrections to the inventory or handover report within the allowed period.

Record meters and keys

Photograph meter readings and list every key, fob and remote. Confirm who handles utility accounts and when responsibility starts.

Report urgent defects

Put leaks, unsafe electrics, broken locks and missing essentials in writing. Keep the message specific and save the response.

Set up the boring systems

Register the address where required, arrange insurance, test smoke alarms, save emergency contacts and create a recurring rent reminder.
